Draft Rules for Personal Information Privacy Act

Partner Chen Hui-ling’s report on the draft enforcement rules to Taiwan’s new Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) has been published by Privacy Laws & Business in the December issue of their International Report. The report may be downloaded here (see p. 2).

The draft enforcement rules have 52 articles. Key topics treated in the report include the criteria for  ‘indirect’ personal information, the definition of ‘sensitive personal information’ such as medical records that is subjected to heightened protections, and notice and consent requirements.
