Peter J. Dernbach
Peter has substantial experience in the fields of intellectual property and competition. He has advised international clients in the Internet, food, snack food, pet care, high technology and travel and leisure industries on the acquisition and protection of trademark rights and copyrights in Taiwan and around the world. His practice includes assisting foreign and local clients in obtaining, enforcing and licensing their intellectual property rights. Through WIPO, he has served as a Panelist in over 60 domain name disputes brought under ICANN’s UDRP system.
Peter is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the International Trademark Association (INTA), and has been recently recognized in the World Trademark Review as one of the leading trademark lawyers in Taiwan. Peter has also been recommended numerous times by Chambers Asia-Pacific , most recently in 2016, for his intellectual property work. In addition to serving on the INTA Board of Directors, Peter is currently serving on the Brands & Innovation Committee for INTA. Peter is also a member of the Marques China Team and co-chairs the Intellectual Property Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce Taipei.
Prior to joining Winkler Partners, Peter practiced law in Washington, D.C. at Arent Fox LLP, where he was an associate in the firm’s Technology Department specializing in intellectual property. Formerly, he worked as an associate at Qi Lin International Law Offices in Taipei where he focused on intellectual property and corporate transactions.
Peter obtained his bachelor’s degree in international affairs from The George Washington University, and received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Peter was also awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the National University of Singapore. He is a member of the bars of California and the District of Columbia and is registered as an Attorney of Foreign Legal Affairs with Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice. In addition to his bar admissions,Peter is an arbitrator at the Chinese Arbitration Association in Taipei. He is also active in both the American Chamber of Commerce Taipei and the European Chamber of Commerce Taipei.
Peter is also a member of the board of an environmental law organization in Taiwan, Wild at Heart Legal Defense Association.
